Twelve girls from Pewsey Netball Club attended the Annual Rugby Club Christmas Ball this weekennd where the theme was 'The 1950's'. Everyone looked excellent and we definitely had the best victory rolls!! The evening started off with a few glasses of prosecco followed by a three course meal topped off by lots of dancing!!Members of the team ventured out to London on Sunday to support England in their game against Australia in the 4 nations Rugby League tournament.
It was a great day out with one honorary netballer, Chris, who was more than happy to be surrounded by girls all day talking about rugby! Despite the loss for England, we were all in good spirits and we're now looking forward to our next trip out to watch England Play Jamaica in the netball Vitality league on Tuesday 29th November. In form GA Lauren Cook with 23 goals kept the scoreboard ticking over in the first three quarters; this had Calne trailing from the off. At the start of the final quarter the score was 26-20.
In the final quarter Pewsey upped the tempo and totally dominated court position. GD Suzy Samuels and GK Alice Nutall proved solid in defence and produced quick accurate ball. Pewsey’s passing frequency meant they won in the possession stakes. Centre Nicole Edwards and WA Rachel Crossey both created pressure when it mattered to get the ball to the shooting circle. Pewsey player of the match, GS Elaine Haynes finally got her eye in and scored ten goals in as many minutes, to add to her previous three. Lauren Cook added another five to finish on 28. Calne managed two goals in reply, the final result 41-22 to Pewsey. At the start Calne had the centre pass deft Pewsey play intercepted and Lauren Cook had the first net. Pewsey remained in front for all four quarters; in the first three Calne remained in touch as Pewsey experienced spells of patchy play. Nevertheless they did manage to extend their lead from a first quarter of 10-7, to a second of 21-16 and third of 26-20. These leads were built on solid defence along with Suzy Samuels and Alice Nutall, WD Lesley Saker was energetic blocking and blunting Calne’s attack. Pewsey were helped by the fresh legs of Danielle Smith, who played the last two quarters taking over from Lesley Saker at WD. Pewsey finally gelled together in the fourth quarter when they combined some superb, flowing netball to finish with a flourish. This was a solid performance were the team played for each other and corrected mistakes on the hoof. The team were back out over the weekend recruiting for new members for the Pewsey Netball Team at the notorious Beer Race at Pewsey Carnival. Here are some of the club just before the race!
